What an exciting time I had attending the NBCDI Annual Conference in Charlotte! Learning from passionate pros working to serve the conference’s theme: "Unleashing the Promise and Genius of Black Children and Families" was everything I hoped it would be. It was equally a pleasure to talk about Hampton Roads and the many accomplishments of our affiliate's efforts to engage and focus parents and children on the importance of literacy. I hope my interview with the Early Learning Nation Studio engages, educates and motivates you! —Darlene Walker, BCDI-HR President |
BCDI recently partnered with Sister Cities of Hampton and the Hampton Chapter of Links Inc. to promote literacy by donating nearly 800 books to their South Africa Book Drive. This effort will support Sister Cities International’s (SCI) Libraries and Literacy Project. All the selected books were written by Black authors or were deemed culturally appropriate for Black children. They will go to elementary aged students in conjunction with the SCI February Summit in Cape Town, South Africa. Mrs. Dianne Peterson, Sister Cities of Hampton's President said the children were absolutely thrilled to receive our wonderful gift of love. Helping to promote social and emotional learning provides BCDI-Hampton Roads an enormous opportunity to spread the joy of reading amongst our international community. |
Your donation will make a difference to address the needs of Black children and families. | We're looking for strong individuals like YOU who want to help strengthen our community. |
